Schools may be out for summer, but the Krol Corlett team is busy transforming classrooms, corridors and playground with 10 live education sector projects all on site concurrently over the summer months.
Including both primary and secondary school refurbishment programmes, the 10 projects range from small upgrades to more complex jobs, which will continue into the new school year and on into 2021. Project values vary, highlighting the variety of jobs we deliver in the sector, but they represent a combined value of £4.5 million and considerable co-ordination across all 10 sites.
The locations of our current school projects are as diverse as the schools themselves. The portfolio sees us working across Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, demonstrating our success in extending the business geographically while leveraging our established reputation in the education sector.
While some of the projects are for new clients, many have seen us return to schools where we’ve delivered previous schemes and been invited back thanks to the calibre of our work.
All 10 projects are planned refurbishment and upgrade works, but some have been expedited to enable existing buildings to be made ready for social distancing requirements as the students return to school in September. Of the 10 education projects currently on site, half will complete in time for the new school year, with the remainder co-ordinated around the schools’ operational requirements once lessons re-start in September.
Amongst the more extensive projects is a £1.4 million programme for Morecambe Bay School in Lancashire, where four packages of work have been combined in a single scheme. Here we will be replacing internal fire doors and upgrading life safety systems, carrying out external works, refurbishing the gatehouse and replacing windows.
Meanwhile in Cheshire, we have returned to County High School in Leftwich for a fourth time to carry out further window replacements following previous re-fenestration, roof and life safety projects.
Over the decades, the Krol Corlett business has grown and diversified but we have continued to build on our reputation in education and it’s great to go back to school on so many campuses this summer.
